Alpha Away!

The last two chapters of Hunting the Dragon are finally typed up and will be sent to my alpha reader by this evening. I also have feedback from her on several previous chapters waiting in my inbox.

Progress on what I hope is the last revision/proofread round on Blood Curse 2nd edition (which will be a sort of 10th anniversary edition if I can get it out this year) is slow, but well worth it.

I went into this one originally just to fix my punctuation snafu mentioned in my previous post, as well as insert accented letters; something the free Word app either doesn’t do, or I haven’t figured out how to do with it. It’s turned into line editing and seriously tweaking the prose one more time. I’m really enjoying it, even though I’m only 15 pages in.

My biggest problem is fighting off the impatience and wanting to do ALL the book things at once. I blame my newest addiction for this enthusiasm which must be bridled: booktube channels. For those yet to discover them, YouTube has a couple of genres which truly feed an author’s needs: booktube and authortube.

Booktube channels are primarily collections of videos about book reviews and sometimes book clubs/fans. Many of these channels can give books a wider audience than just promoting on social media and at conventions.

Authortube seems to consist of authors’ channels or videos with publishing and writing tips. For me, especially last year after so many conventions were canceled, these filled my need/desire for writing and book promoting panels. Plus, it gave me fresh perspectives beyond the familiar ones from the conventions I’ve been haunting for years.

I do have plans to revive and bulk up my own channel eventually.

Some day.

Oh! Before I forget, I recently took part in the recording of a panel for the upcoming virtual LibertyCon. The title of the panel is Very Vocal Vampire Voices. Look for it when LibertyCon goes live the last weekend of June. Since it’s virtual, it’s FREE and without an attendance cap.

Brain Hurricane

Had more ideas for this second Waves of Darkness story arc storming through my head this week. Given the nemesis I’ve given Viktor, I figured I needed to up the stakes for him in these second 7 books. (The rough draft of book 8 is nearing completion, so I need to get with my beta reader and hopefully recruit a few more.)

I won’t list the details here, since they would be spoilers spread out over books 8-14. I’ll just say to expect things to get personal between Viktor and Dragon. At least one main supporting character will be taken out of the picture. Allies will be attacked or subverted. Nobody will be safe.

All I can say is it’s a good thing my mask has been hiding my maniacal grin from my coworkers when these ideas start playing out in my head. I don’t want to scare them too much. Mwahaha!

So, working a split shift has been beneficial for me, if not the greatest financially speaking. (It has seriously curtailed my overtime.) The longer home time in the mornings allowed me to finally finish taking the tree apart and putting it away until Fall.

On the writing/publishing front, I’ve transcribed the early draft of Ghost of Honor and transferred it to my desktop for further editing before I submit it.

For my Waves of Darkness fans, I’ve also made good headway on chapter 2 of Hunting the Dragon.

AND … I finally did the line art for the cover of The Adventures of Pigg & Woolfe: 8 Chance and Fortune. It is scanned, cleaned up, and transferred to the tablet for coloring.

Now I need to get the gumption to redo the flooring in the cats’ room. Uh-huh.

Oh, before I forget: I will be pushing books at ConNooga this weekend in the Chattanooga Convention Center. I do NOT have a table. Just look for the old pirate wench with a roller bag full of books. I have copies of Demon Bayou, Silent Fathoms, Black Venom, Hell’s Dodo, The Daedalus Enigma, and Maelstrom of Fate.

While I’m sold out of book 1, Blood Curse, I’d be more than happy to email a free .doc copy to anyone who buys one of the other books.

I currently don’t have a newsletter service and will NEVER abuse or sell anyone’s information.

I’ve finished chapter 2.

Bloody Vik Brandee Returns

I have finished the first draft of episode 36 of The Adventures of Pigg & Woolfe. Now I am ready to seriously work on a plot for the 8th Waves of Darkness book (as yet untitled).

I have several good story and scene ideas already. I just need to work out what order I want to stage them in.

Over the holiday break I also plan to work up covers for TAoPaW episode 7 and the mid-season omnibus. Look for both to hit Kindle in early January.

Attack of the Writer’s Brain!

The cats are for my mental benefit; they’re just a bonus for the rest of you. This pic was taken in early November. That’s the semi-shredded remains of the Christmas tree box they’re nested on. It will be stored in the garage from now on, or at least until we pick up some appropriately sized plastic bins to store the tree in.

As for the tree. It is up and lit, but I’ve only got a smattering of ornaments on it so far. I have yet to send out the first Christmas card.

Meanwhile, on to the writer brain attack. My mind has terrible timing. Some scene ideas I have for the next story arc of Waves of Darkness decided to unfold in overdrive this morning when I was supposed to be getting ready for work. Good but not good. Reason? My body either goes stationary or into pacing mode when this happens, and I’m unable to get anything else accomplished.

Anywho, I will share a few vagaries concerning this story arc. While the first story arc dealt with the Sisters of Power, this one concerns the Daughters of the Dragon, and ultimately with the Dragon, himself. I plan to take 5 to 7 books to tell this story. These will probably be the final books in Waves of Darkness. I don’t have any plans for a third story arc at this time.

I plan to have Viktor make more inland excursions during his cat-and-mouse game with the Dragon. Gonna be fun to see how Belladonna deals with that.

I also have some tension planned for Viktor and Hezikiah concerning Brianna. That was the scenario trying to flesh out this morning, and I’m getting really excited about it just writing this post.

Okay, I’m going to hush about that now. Otherwise I may reveal too much before publication. I’m that excited.

The struggle to get an agent to represent the earlier books in the series continues. Had a very pleasant rejection letter from an agent who was interested but doesn’t have the clout in the industry to sell previously published works. She did ask that I keep her in mind if I have anything similar which has not been published. I replied I would query her for book 8 if I haven’t found representation by then.

That may be the route I have to go to get the first 7 books back on the market: get readers hooked on Viktor’s new story line and hungry for his back story. This means book 8 will need to be spectacular. I believe I can provide that.

Holiday Progress Report

As you can guess by the image above, Viktor Brandewyne has been invading my head space again. This is a good thing.

I have gotten a few more agent queries out, which will hopefully help speed the return of the Waves of Darkness books to publication. I have also started brainstorming on the next books/story arc in the series. I currently have about 4 pages of scene ideas and questions which I need to answer for plot development. This will expand.

I am currently writing on the final episode for season 3 of The Adventures of Pigg & Woolfe. It will take me a while to finish, since I want to get the emotional impact just right. (Also, my work schedule plus the holidays are forcing my writing time into a catch-as-catch-can situation. I’ve even developed a lovely pure white streak on the left side of my head near the crown.)

I have edited episode 7, Double Jeopardy, and am pondering the cover illustration. I expect to release the episode sometime in early December. I am also contemplating doing a virtual box set of the first six episodes. I still need to come up with a cover for that, as well. I also need to check into whether or not KDP supports internal illustrations and what’s involved with that. Some of this research will obviously go toward the eventual production of the Season One omnibus.

In non-writing related events, I have encountered for only the second time in my life a rather irritating and bemusing phenomenon. The first time this happened was a few years ago in the same county but on the opposite side of the Tennessee River from my current residence.

I had to work last Sunday, so I didn’t get out that morning to pick up a newspaper. When I did get by a store after work, there were none to be had. I asked at the counter and was told someone had come in that day, as well as the day before, and bought all the papers. The same thing had happened at all the other stores nearby which carry the local paper. I cannot figure out why someone would do this. According to my husband, it continued to happen every day up to Thanksgiving this past week.

The other time I encountered this, whoever did it also stole one convenience store’s allotment of papers from their front sidewalk before the owners arrived to open up.

If they were doing this to amass coupons for Black Friday sales, I would think the limitations on the coupons would work against them. Also, it’s very inconsiderate to people who just wanted the blasted newspaper and comics. I do NOT engage in shopping as a sport. as for why I don’t subscribe to the newspaper, I did shortly after moving in, but more missed deliveries than made deliveries within a 2 month period led to the cancellation of my subscription.  They might have retained my business if they’d offered to have a paper redelivered instead of just offering credit for the missed delivery.

Okay, that’s enough venting for now, and I didn’t let myself lapse into language worthy of one of my pirate characters. Sniff

Viktor and Crew Are At Sea for Now

As of April 2018 the Waves of Darkness series of books are unavailable for sale (with the exception of a few copies of each title I still have for conventions). I have ended my contract with Gypsy Shadow Publishing.

I will be re-releasing the books at a future date, as yet undetermined, as self-published works. They will have new covers, and I plan to do some minor revisions/re-edits prior to that time.

This comes at about the same time I plan to launch the first episode of The Adventures of Pigg & Woolfe, also to be self-published. Plus, I’m about to enter a period of extensive overtime with my job. So I ask for your patience. I want to do this as quickly as possible; but I want to do it right and give readers the best quality.

Thank you for reading. Viktor Brandewyne WILL be back.

Pre-con Diversion

Sorry for such a drop-down to the image. While I was able to clean up the clutter on the original sketch, I couldn’t get my ancient computer to let me crop the darn thing. Maybe because I saved it as a .png? I’m really not that tech savvy, and I don’t have the kind of time needed to play around with programs to truly get the hang of them. (I used MS Paint to edit the pic, for crying out loud.)

Anywho, this is a sketch I drew of Viktor during one of the slow times at my table at Chattacon last month.

While I will be attending ConNooga this weekend, I am not running a table this year. Finances are a bit tight with the new house and learning the hard way I have the highest charging water and electric utilities in the county.

That being said, I do still have several copies of all 7 titles in the Waves of Darkness series available. If anyone is going to be at the con and is interested in purchasing them, look for the middle-aged pirate wench pushing a roller bag around. If I don’t have the title you want with me Friday, we can just set up a time to meet Saturday or Sunday, and I’ll bring it/them then.

HallowCon Approacheth!

That’s right boys and ghouls! This will be my last convention of the year as well as my first time attending HallowCon. This con has been going for a long time, and is now under new management (JoeDog McKeel) and in a new location (Quality Inn & Suites).

As you may guess from their graphic, the Rocky Horror Picture Show is this year’s theme. You have been warned.

I will have a table in the vending area as well as being a panelist. By the time you see this, I should have my Appearances page updated with my schedule.

As I’ve stated in previous posts, I will have 10 copies each of each of my Waves of Darkness titles available for purchase. That is 70 books. I really don’t want to have to cart them back home. This will also be your last chance to get them at the old price. Because of a rate hike at the printer’s, my publisher has raised the retail price (on print copies), as well.

Get ’em while they’re cheap!
